Copyright for "Our own Primary Arithmetic, by S. Lander A.M.," 1863 Nov. 26

Legal document to establish copyright in Confederate States for math textbook written by Samuel Lander, under the title, "Our Own Primary Arithmetic," filed by Daniel Coleman, District Court Clerk, District of Cape Fear, N.C. The document notes the precedent of the 1790 law passed by the U.S. Congress, cited as, "An act for the encouragement of learning, by Securing of the Copies of Maps, Charts and Books to the authors and proprietors of such copies during the time therein mentioned." That law may have been an early priority of the "Provisional Congress of the Confederate States of America" as this item cites its inclusion in the legislation entitled, "An Act to continue in force certain laws of the United States of America," adopted 9 Feb. 1861.
